The Administrative Court in Tel Aviv has approved a class action to recover 600 million NIS against the state of Israel, for the convalescence pay which was taken from the public sector’s employees.

    July 5, 2015

The plaintiffs, Shulamit Zarbib, a nurse at Clalit’s clinic and Aviva Sagton a NAAMAT’s school teacher, filled in 2011 a lawsuit and a motion to approve the lawsuit as class action, claiming that in 2009, their salary was reduced by an amount equal to half of the convalescence pay  they should have received. The salary was reduced as part of economic efficiency measures taken in order to construct a fund to help businesses facing economic crisis. However, up to this day, the state did not fulfill its obligation and hasn’t established the fund as required by the applicable law.

The lawsuit was filed in cooperation by Adv. Doron Levy, a senior partner and heads the firm’s Tax and Class Action practices, Adv. Yair Avraham who is an associate in the firm’s Class Actions department, Professor Joseph Edery tax policy expert, and Yafit Mengal a senior adviser to law firm and an expert on taxation of wages attorney.
