    Apple new DMA update

    November 15, 2023

Apple is already demonstrating policy changes as part of the European Union’s new antitrust regulation, the Digital Market Act (“DMA”).

As part of the new provisions of the DMA, Apple, as a gatekeeper, is required to allow users to sideload apps outside the Apple App Store to increase competition.

Apple’s iOS 17.2 beta code has a new public framework called “Managed App Distribution”. This new update, among other features, seems to allow alternative app stores.

Currently, Apple is required to comply with DMA legislation by March 2024.

For more information on the DMA please see our update from March 30, 2022 Here.

This document is intended to provide only a general background regarding this matter. This document should not be regarded as setting out binding legal advice but rather as a practical overview that is based on our understanding. APM & Co. is not licensed to practice law outside of Israel.
